Birthdays and Books

sept 19 001

‘Nuff said.  Hoping this week is better.  Really, REALLY frustrated about the fact that I haven’t worked out in four days.  Makes.  Me.  Crabby.

….. September and October are FILLED with birthdays!  Today we went to another fiesta that was literally right around the corner.  (The theme of this week seems to be “wonderful neighborhood friends.”) Our new friend Anastasia turned three and it was a pleasure to celebrate with her.  🙂

Okay, you can wear Anastasia’s hat, but only because you’re a September baby, too.  🙂

Had a hankerin’ to make sweet potato fries to go along with our leftover pecan-crusted chicken for tonight’s dinner….

Drizzled some olive oil on the baking pan, then sprinkled some dried thyme.

Then sprinkled on some sea salt, pepper and paprika.

Oh! Finally chose my next book!

the-help

Several friends read it and loved it so I read a sample on the ol’ iPad last night and I’m hooked.  Looking forward to reading the rest!  Have you read this book? Sometimes it takes me days to choose my next book.  I wish I weren’t so picky! My main criteria:

  • It has to draw me in with the very first sentence.
  • It has to have characters I can relate to on some level.
  • It has to have a pretty cover.  (I know – “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” – but I do!)
  • It has to have a setting that’s easy to picture in my mind’s eye as I read.
  • It has to be worth my time.  Time is a precious commodity and wasting it makes me crazy.

A new book is like a little adventure.  You don’t know what you’re gonna get (“Life is like a box o’ chawklits….”) and it unfolds as you go.  If you’re not digging it, you close it up and move on until you find one you love.

Tomorrow is grocery day.

And doggone it, I WILL work out tomorrow – stuffy head or no stuffy head!!!!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading!

***** QUESTION FOR YOU:  What are you most looking forward to about this week?
