I may have had a little too much fun with candy pumpkins today.
Have you ever made homemade cranberry sauce?
Not sure why it took me so long. Probably because I thought it was far more complicated than it is.
Boil some water and sugar (in my case – sucanat). Add the berries (in my case, a handful of apple chunks, too) and boil gently for about ten minutes. Really? That’s IT?
While it’s boiling, the berries pop open – a very cute sound, mind you – and the insides get all soft. And after about two minutes of boiling, your kitchen smells amazing – especially if you add the apples!
BOOM. Cranberry sauce. Unreal. SO much more delicious than the canned stuff. Like, no comparison.
We had it along with some lemon-garlic turkey breast and baked sweet potatoes. It was like a yumtastic preview of Thanksgiving.
That was last night.
This was this morning:
A pretty major storm came through overnight and woke us all up at 6 a.m. For a lot of people, 6 a.m. is standard but for us – it’s too darn early. (Can you say “early bedtime tonight?”) ;-) The house was pitch dark when we woke up and all attempts to go back to sleep were in vain. I do love a good excuse to light every single candle in the house, though!
And the gale-force winds are supposed to last through Thursday!
…Today’s eats were pretty low-key. The usual breakfast (cereal and a bananer), lunch was this:
Um, Europeans? I LIKE YOUR YOGURT STYLE!!
Dinner was “Thanksgiving leftovers.” 🙂
We went to Tarjay this afternoon for these and a few other things:
This book caught my eye. The cover made me drool a little. If you’ve heard anything about it, do let me know!
Busy couple of days comin’ up… sincerely hope I have time to BLOG!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading!
***** QUESTION FOR YOU: Have you ever made homemade cranberry sauce?
I have never made home made cranberry sauce…usually have the gelatinous kinds on T-Day!
So do the skins get all soft too or did you mush it up more? It looked really good! I will have to try it! Did you get the cranberries at Jewel?
I’d like to use some when I get my juicer too.
Yup, love homemade cranberry sauce! I usually make this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Cranberry-Sauce-Extraordinaire/Detail.aspx
We were hit with snow and wind today, too. Yuck. Don’t love winter.
I have never used the canned cranberry sauce…too much like Jello. Yuck. As you found out, it’s so easy, there’s no reason NOT to make your own! And yes, it smells WONDERFUL. I usually use brown sugar and orange juice (instead of water). I guess that adds lots of sugar, but man, is it good!!! I’ll have to add the apples next time!
🙂 Like how you lined up the candy pumpkins.
I am sick of the gusty winds, yesterday was horrible today is not much better.
***** QUESTION FOR YOU: Have you ever made homemade cranberry sauce?

I have never made cranberry sauce — and yours looks great Wendy!
The little pumpkins are so cute. I need to pick some of those up!
